The way London households think about transport and energy is evolving rapidly. Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly common across the capital, driven by emissions regulations, urban air quality targets, and changing expectations around sustainability. For homeowners, installing a private charging point offers a practical step towards adapting to this shift, providing convenience, predictability, and greater control over energy use.
At Wired & Wonderful, we work with homeowners across London to install electric vehicle charging points as part of carefully planned domestic electrical systems. As NICEIC Approved Contractors, our role is to ensure that installations are safe, compliant, and appropriate for the property in which they are installed. Rather than offering one generic solution, we assess each home individually, recognising that London’s housing stock varies widely in age, design, and electrical infrastructure.
Our approach prioritises correct installation, certification, and long-term reliability. Whether the property is a period house in a conservation area or a modern development with higher electrical demand, our focus remains on delivering a charging solution that functions effectively within existing electrical systems.
Installing an electric vehicle charger is a specialist electrical task that requires formal competence, appropriate testing equipment, and up-to-date knowledge of wiring regulations. In London, these requirements are particularly important due to the diversity of property types and the frequent presence of older electrical installations.
Many homes still operate with consumer units, cabling, or earthing arrangements that were not designed to accommodate sustained additional electrical loads. An EV charger draws a significant amount of current over extended periods, and installing one without proper assessment can strain existing systems. For this reason, professional installation by qualified EV charger installers London ensures the charger operates safely under normal conditions.
Using accredited installers also ensures that work complies with current Building Regulations and wiring standards. Electrical installations must be tested, certified, and recorded correctly. Insurers and mortgage providers may require evidence of compliant installation, particularly where new circuits or modifications have been introduced.
At Wired & Wonderful, each installation begins with an assessment of the existing electrical installation. This allows us to confirm whether capacity is sufficient and whether any upgrades are required before proceeding. Only once this assessment is complete do we recommend an appropriate charging solution.
Wired & Wonderful is a family-run electrical contractor operating across London and the surrounding region. Our work focuses on residential electrical services, including EV charger installation and renewable energy systems, carried out to recognised industry standards.
Being NICEIC Approved Contractors means our work is subject to regular external assessment. Installations we carry out are tested and certified, and notifiable works are registered correctly. Documentation is provided to homeowners upon completion, forming a permanent record of compliance.
We are also Which? Trusted Traders, a status achieved through ongoing review of workmanship, customer service, and business practices. This independent endorsement reflects a consistent approach to domestic electrical work rather than isolated customer feedback.
Our role in EV charging projects is limited to electrical installation, testing, and certification. We do not act as planning consultants or energy advisors. Where external approvals may be required, we explain known considerations and recommend that homeowners consult the relevant authority.
Homes across London vary substantially in terms of layout, age, and available electrical infrastructure. For this reason, installing a charging point is rarely a one-size-fits-all exercise. Some properties have garages or private driveways, while others require more considered cable routing or discreet positioning.
Our approach is to design each installation based on the physical characteristics of the property and the available electrical supply. Charger location is determined by practical access, safety requirements, and cable routing considerations. Where visible installations are unavoidable, equipment is positioned as discreetly as possible, using suitable fixings and weather-rated materials.
We install charging equipment supplied by recognised manufacturers that meet UK and European electrical standards. The final selection depends on compatibility with the vehicle, available electrical capacity, and homeowner preference. All chargers installed are designed for domestic use and include safety features required under current regulations.
Where smart charging functionality is included by the manufacturer, we commission and test these features as part of installation. Operation and basic use are explained at handover.
London includes a large number of conservation areas and listed buildings. In some cases, visible external alterations may require approval before installation proceeds. Requirements vary by borough and by property designation.
Wired & Wonderful does not submit planning applications or obtain consent on behalf of homeowners. However, we highlight known considerations based on experience working in similar properties. Where uncertainty exists, we recommend confirming requirements with the local authority before installation.
In situations where external installation is restricted, alternative approaches such as internal routing or garage-based chargers may be considered where technically feasible. Final decisions rest with the homeowner and the relevant approving body.
For properties without off-street parking, private EV charger installation may not be possible. In such cases, we advise homeowners that alternative public or local authority solutions may need to be explored separately.
Some homeowners choose to install charging points alongside solar panels London installations, creating a combined domestic energy system. Wired & Wonderful installs both EV chargers and solar photovoltaic systems, allowing electrical compatibility to be considered when both systems are present.
Solar-generated electricity can contribute to household energy usage during daylight hours. Depending on charger and inverter compatibility, charging may be scheduled manually or automatically to coincide with generation periods. The extent of integration depends on the equipment specified and the configuration of the installation.
Solar installations are designed and installed in accordance with electrical and structural standards. Roof suitability, orientation, shading, and access are assessed before installation. As with EV chargers, any planning considerations must be confirmed separately by the homeowner where applicable.
Battery storage may also be installed as part of a solar system where appropriate. Battery installation involves additional electrical protection and monitoring, which is designed to operate safely alongside other electrical loads.

We would highly recommend Wired and Wonderful. In our first interaction they gave us an expedited quote on Sunday. In our most recent interaction they judiciously attended to the snag list. Throughout we have had an excellent experience. Rob, Jamie, Adam and the team have been extremely accommodating, friendly, polite, professional and hardworking. My only hesitation in leaving this review is they might get too busy for when we want their services again in future!Posted on William MarksTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would highly recommend!Posted on Raj PatelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have recently had a 10 panel, 10KW battery PV system installed by Wired and Wonderful (UK) Limited - a company very ably led by Robert Mackinlay. Although I had done a fair amount of research on the subject, I found that there were many gaps in my knowledge. Robert was so patient in explaining various options and didn’t hesitate to steer me away from making wrong decisions about system choices. From then on to the stage of supplying drawings for planning permission, clear quotes and later on an offer of precise timetable for installation was very professionally managed by Robert. Before the day of installation, a team of very polite scaffolders arrived and installed the necessary scaffolding in a matter of hours. They were very helpful and indeed acceded to requests for gutter cleaning etc. I can see that Robert has taken care to select his sub-contractors who are not only professionally competent but also polite and helpful. On the day of installation Robert and his team arrived at 07:30 and got straight to work. Two days later I had a fully functioning system. Not only that but within a few hours all of the regulatory paper work was cleared and I was able to register with the energy supplier to come off their standard variable tariff to that suitable for Solar Panels. I did not realise how much regulatory stuff that Robert has to deal with and the many agencies involved in the process. All that was done with no failures and with the requisite precision. I had expected weeks for the installation and days for follow up processes with energy supplier. From the point Robert’s van pulled up my drive to me being on the correct solar panel tariff with my energy supplier the total time taken was just under three days. That is indeed notable. All work was done to ahigh standard and no mess left behind. Robert did not shy away from wielding the broom himself. Throughout this period Robert explained each stage and constantly reassured me that all was going well. His work finished by his sending me a video of my roof panels so that I can see from the comfort of my arm chair all that has been done. This was followed by a pdf of the regulatory paper work all of which was also sent by mail. Robert left me with a feeling of high confidence that I was dealing with a professionally competent person who will not let me down. All in all, I do not hesitate at all in recommending Robert and his Wired and Wonderful team for Solar Panel installation work.Posted on Emma ClaytonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The other thing that struck me was the neat and tidy nature of their work leaving an overall high quality impression. Highly recommend.Posted on Angela BothaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot recommend these guys enough. Good solid work ethic and can do attitude. They totally came up with a plan when they ran into a problem while redoing my electrics for my studio. 5 stars. I wanted to add an update to this review. A month on, I had an issue with some of the lighting in my studio and emailed Rob. Within a week, a plan was made and the lighting was sorted, no charge. This is service, if you're still on the fence wondering if you should hire Rob and his team. Just go ahead and call them. You will not be sorry.Posted on Lisa SertinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
